Candy Crush Saga- Hard Level Offer Revamp

All artwork owned by Midasplayer AB/ King.

I was the lead artist on a UI reskin for one of Candy Crush Saga's key sales popup- the Hard Level Offer. The Hard Level Offer is a popup that appears before a challenging level. It offers boosters that may help the player pass the level more easily.

One of the key improvements was centered around the narrative. The idea of a steep and foreboding mountain to cross shows a journey (like the Saga map progression of Candy Crush Saga) is also something that is easily understandable. Adding emphasis on a staple Candy Crush character (Odus the Owl), by making him help you out by offering a bundle, enhances the narrative too. I also played around with darker colours and tones(which are used generally in challenging levels in the game) which also serves as an alert to players.

Another key improvement was to pre-empt the player of the availability of the Offer. Adding an introductory popup several levels before the challenging level serves this purpose and also enhances the narrative connection with Odus. The bundle will drop down onto the map and will remain there until the player reaches the challenging level. The final asset for the bundle (3D model and animations) were done by other artists.

Adding a character on the Bundle would clutter the space and confuse players as each episode art features two characters (And Odus is featured on some). It would simply not work with two Oduses!!

As the popup only appears once in a play session, the bundle needs to have a home-somewhere in the Ingame Shop.
